Everything You Wanted to Know About Memoji but Were Afraid to Ask

Emoji overload? Never. Add even more personality to your text messages with Apple’s new feature.

We’ve come a long way since the basic smiley face 🙂

Today, there are emojis for sushi, dogs, and if you have an iPhone X or newer, you can even create one that looks like you. It’s called a Memoji, and yes, it’s as fun and silly as it sounds.

To get started, open the Messages app and create a new one. Tap the Apps icon next to the message box, then the Animoji icon (it’s a Monkey). Swipe right until you see New Memoji, then tap the plus sign.

Customize Your Memoji

  1. Tap through each section to explore different skin tones, hairstyles, and facial features.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of each section to add options like freckles, eyelashes, earrings, and beards. You can personalize your Memoji even more with eyewear or a hat.
  3. To adjust color, choose an option and drag the slider from left to right. You can tap the color wheel for more varieties.
  4. When you’re finished, tap Done. Your Memoji will be added to your collection of Animojis. To edit a saved Memoji, tap the Ellipsis icon > Edit.

Share Your Memoji

When you’re ready to record a message, press the red button. You’ll have 30 seconds to talk, make faces, or stick out your tongue. Your Memoji will do the same.

Review your Memoji message and press Send. This will send it to iPhone users as an iMessage, and Android users as a video. Press and hold your Memoji message to copy or save it to your phone.

Make sure you send or save your Memoji before leaving the Messages app, or your recording will be erased 🙁
